Most people, even those who consider themselves Christian or Orthodox Christians, will not know of the news considered to be "the worst crisis in centuries" for the Christian Orthodox churches. In 2018, after years of debate and pressure from outside forces, the Ukrainian Orthodox church announced a split from the Patriarch Russian Orthodox church which has been in existence for over 1,000 years.
