Throughout our world, over thousands of years, there have been reports of individuals who have special “gifts” of knowing and “seeing” that most human beings have not been endowed with, or developed. These human beings have abilities which have been denigrated by western science, allopathic medicine and most psychologists. But they do exist, and in many cases have been verified.
In contemporary society, tech tools and media have exaggerated as well as denigrated those who voyage into the unknown of human consciousness and human faculties. Science has evolved into the new mythology.
AI is displacing human creativity, human fallibility, human effort, and human consciousness with industrial strength at break neck speed. The next generations will probably not even know what they are missing because they will rely on their tech companions to do their seeking, full spectrum thinking and creating for them.
However, the uniquely human, non-reproducible experiences of consciousness and cognitions, remote viewing, deja vu and excarnation cannot be duplicated by machines. Genuine mystic, psychic, spiritual encounters and intimacies are exclusive to our species. They are singular to us-not the “singularity”.
Cognitions
The word cognition is derived from the Latin cognitionem and gnoscere which means “to know” to comprehend by means of thinking. The ability to understand, to ‘recognize’ some aspect of knowledge.
While the colloquial usage refers to mental processes, the deeper meaning involves perception, sensations and intuition as ways to discern ‘knowledge’.
The portals to other realms of cognition are not widely known.
At this stage of my life I’ve decided to write about my personal knowledge and experience of these abilities and experiences.
Since I was a child, perhaps because of extreme trauma, I was able to excarnate-leave my body. The emergence of cognitions evolved further during my adolescence. I’ve had the gift of precognition from short time periods (minutes or hours before an event) to years ahead.
Proving my precondition experience was accurate was challenging, so I wrote the most vivid images and “visions” down. This way I could verify them later as “valid” to myself, and to others. These precognitions ranged from the personal, to familial, to my work and even to world events.
My experiences in retro-cognition have been with places and landscapes. They started in my twenties in New York City. I looked out my apartment window in the village one day, which was surrounded by buildings and an alley, and suddenly saw a landscape that was what was probably New York before it was a bustling city. I looked at least three times at a more rural landscape. Then I opened my window to be sure it wasn’t an illusion. Finally the retro scene dissipated and I saw the same buildings again. This prompted me to find research and people who could understand me when I recounted my experiences.
The next time happened about a year later in the Joshua Tree desert in California. I was with a climbing partner and stepped aside to look past the boulders. There I saw an “Indian warrior” leaning against a large boulder in the distance. He was looking past me. I rubbed my eyes, closed them and opened them again and still saw him. When I started to tell my climbing partner to look. The warrior vanished. I wrote this down in a poem I titled, “Sojourner in the Mojave” in my book entitled, “Kismet”.
Over my decades, I’ve had many pre-cognitive, a few retro-cognitive, and many telepathic experiences. These were with my children, my family, my colleagues and with animals.
I’ve personally witnessed telekinetic abilities others have demonstrated, including people being able to move objects, turn on electronic instruments. lights and stereos remotely-in another room for example. I’ve seen objects be able to “fly around the room” in Indigenous ceremonies such as the Yuwipi, I participated in at different regions of the world.
I was part of a special program in my twenties for refining my capabilities in remote viewing, and with the advice from elders in Indigenous communities I lived and worked in, especially the Aboriginal Gumbaynngirr of Australia; I grew my faculties for “remote” viewing and dreaming, including dream inception techniques. I was first introduced to these techniques by Dr. Arnold Mysior, the Director of the Psychology Department at Georgetown University and former OSS agent ( Office of Special Services, an agency pre-dating the CIA) decades ago. I write about some of these techniques and sessions in my two non-fiction books, “Traveling Off the X” and “Traveler Between Worlds”.
Most people in the West will dismiss anecdotal evidence, (including of my experiences) and have already been programmed not to accept “parapsychological phenomenon”.
But fortunately, there is a wider acceptance and understanding of these phenomenon in the East including in Russia (particularly in Siberia), in Armenia, Mongolia, Malaysia, China, and with the Indigenous communities in Australia, New Zealand, Northern Africa, the Middle East and Central America. Places and people I’ve had the good fortune to live and work with since the 1970s.

The most accessible categories of these types of cognitions are as follows:
Pre-Cognition: the ability to perceive and therefore predict events in the future. Fore knowledge of happenings.
Retro-Cognition: the ability to know and even ‘see” an event in the past that they personally had no direct contact, experience or memory of. Sometimes called post cognition. It is different than “hindsight” because this is cognition of an event that did not occur in the person’s lifetime or life events.
Clairvoyance: is the ability to “see clearly” this could be future events, past actions, where an object-for example a piece of clothing or furniture has been, seeing what is “hidden”.
Telepathy: characterized as the ability to transfer thoughts, emotions and/or images from one person to another or multiple persons. This is without speaking, hearing or communication. It is accomplished by extrasensory means.
Consciousness
There is a distinction between being conscious and consciousness. There is also another level of consciousness labelled as the “subconscious”. In essence, one is in reference to a purely physical and medical state i.e. to be conscious/unconsious; and the other to what may be a more mystical interpretation of the realm which is still relatively unknown.
There are three main definitions of consciousness and a fourth still in formation. These are:
Normal States of Consciousness-This is the state of being awake, aware, and able to think and interact with your environment.
Unconscious-This is a state of lack of awareness, such as sleep or coma.
Higher Consciousness-These can involve altered states of awareness like meditation, mindfulness, or spiritual experiences.
The Subconscious is often not included, yet it is where experiences, images, emotions, feelings are processed concurrently. They influence our conscious conduct and judgements. While Sigmund Freud and Carl Jung originally brought this aspect of our humanity to the study of psychiatry and psychology in the early 20th century; Dr. Stanislas Dehaene, the director of the Cognitive Neuroimaging Unit at INSERM, France, recently revealed how subconscious and conscious thoughts interplay.
His experiments demonstrated that the subconscious mind could process information—such as emotional words—faster than the conscious mind, providing insights into how subconscious processing influences our perceptions reactions, responses and behavior.
Unfortunately, pop psychology, academicians, and self-help guru types have made a “model” of what they disseminate are the levels of consciousness. You may have heard of the Barrett Model. It’s really a corporate construct designed to parameter the possibilities of actual “consciousness” in the viewer’s minds. It’s an extremely pedestrian blueprint of what could be as vast as the universe. However, I will include it here since it is inserted into psychology curriculums and other studies including Business, Theology and social sciences.
Throughout human history there have been seekers and explorers in the realm of consciousness and higher consciousness. For years, the use of substances which contain psychedelic properties have been utilized to “thrust” human beings into a different level of “consciousness” and reality. This can also be accomplished through fasting, meditation and ceremonies, but often people want an “easier option” of ingesting a plant and/or animal or synthesized “medicine” to journey into these other consciousness domains.
There is even a newish word for those who voyage there. They are called “Psychonauts”. Those who travel in the psychedelic spheres.
I’ve been a psychonaut during my life as well as a psychic explorer. My earnest exploration started with my being handed a fascinating book titled, “Psychic Discoveries Behind the Iron Curtain”. back in 1971. It is still relevant and I highly recommend you read it.
Excarnating or “tripping”- going out of one’s body - can also result in tapping into layers of consciousness and connection not possible in everyday life. Out of Body/Excarnation can involve you seeing yourself from a position outside your physical self. From that placement one is able to have “cognition” such as pre-cognition or remote viewing - yet another type of cognition. One can also see oneself in a way that is not possible without being outside the self.
REMOTE VIEWING
Remote viewing has been in mainstream and alternative media sites for at least 20 years. The actual ability to ‘see” events, places and people far away without the use of any tech devices is a “skill” that has been described for many centuries.
Pop culture has grabbed US military programs declassified documents which existed in the seventies, eighties and nineties and included information on “remote viewers” who were used and supervised by the US military in programs implemented by military and intelligence agencies.
Some in those programs capitalized on their experience to “teach” remote viewing skills to the public. Many of their claims are false and commercial. The fascination with “remote” viewing is ongoing, but those in Indigenous communities who have these “gifts” and skills usually prefer to stay out of the spotlight. Most shaman and “medicine men” and “clever men and women” will not charge or accept money for their “help” using remote views. Although they may accept donations.
The US government and tax payer funded programs for remote viewing have been discontinued and have been discounted by skeptics, but other governments, including the Russian and CCP/Chinese government are reportedly still incorporating individuals who have these psychic skills as part of their intelligence gathering. They are more open to the range of abilities human beings are capable of, and place a value on other realms of consciousness.
There are different degrees and types of remote views. Some viewers “see” a photographic type image in their minds. Others see it like a drawing or sketch. Yet others view a photo-negative type image of the person, people or event, or “view” a presentation in the mind like a video in slow motion or in “real” time. I’ve had experience with the latter. Sometimes others near you, or connected in some way can “receive” the same photographic type image or ‘video’ reel of an event in near real time or in the future. There were many reports from different parts of the world before the attacks on September 11, in the USA, before the tsunami in Southeast Asia in 2004, before the October 7, attacks on Israel in 2023-for example.
Some report they are “transported” to a location and/or event briefly in an etheric form, as if witnessing an event or place from above - in the ethers. Then they “return” to report what they have seen.
Some people, in addition to remote viewing, have the ability to use their “consciousness” and mental powers for telekinesis as well.
Telekinesis is the ability to move objects or physical systems using the mind/brain or energy without physical or material contact. Sometimes, children and adolescents possess this ability but lose it later in life as they become adults.
The last aspect of cognition I will mention here is Deja Vu (from the French “just seen”). It is described as a physical as well as a psychical sensation that someone has been to a place or knows a person, that they have never traveled to or met in this lifetime. This “feels” as if they have known them before. This is perhaps the most subjective experience which can be almost impossible to quantify.
There are multitudinous realms and possibilities of consciousness and energies in our galaxy and our universe.
I have noted just a few that are catalogued by human beings and verified over time. Some of these I’ve personally experienced, performed and/or encountered as a witness.
As the physicist Werner Heisenberg (1901-1976) once wrote:
“Not only is the Universe stranger than we think, it is stranger than we can think".
